Home / How to choose a school

How to choose a school in Guayaquil.

Seven questions worth asking on any school visit, before you decide.

Montfort secondary students on campus

Choosing a school is one of the biggest decisions a family makes. These questions help you compare schools on facts, not just first impressions.

1. How many students are in each class?

Fewer students means more participation and closer follow-up. At Montfort the maximum is 19 per class.

2. How many hours of English are there, really?

Ask for weekly hours, not just whether the school is "bilingual". At Montfort: preschool is 100% in English, and primary and secondary have 16 hours a week.

3. Which international certification do students earn?

An external certification such as Cambridge English measures real proficiency. Our students prepare from 2nd grade up to C1.

4. How do they support students emotionally?

Ask whether there is a counseling department (DECE), who leads it and how they communicate with families. At Montfort, the DECE works together with our family mentors.

5. How do they communicate with parents?

Education works when school and home work together. Ask how often and through which channels the school communicates.

6. What happens outside the classroom?

Sports, art, music and values education complete a child's education. Check which activities are offered for each age.

7. What does it cost, and what benefits are there?

Ask for the full figures: enrollment, tuition and benefits for early payment, siblings or paying annually. Montfort publishes them on the Admissions page.
